Submission: “Dear Sleepy Hollow fandom…”
After nearly a week of visiting various blogs, and searching for all sorts of opinions on Ichabod and Abbie (I truly dislike the shipper name, I would’ve liked Abbicha better), I decided to write this, in no order.
WARNING: I’m an Ichabod and Abbie fan, and will always be, so I will probably be biased in my whatever this is…
1.I have one question; if anti-Ichabod and Abbie people know that we shippers (of that pairing) don’t want the romance to happen right now (where would the shipping in that be?), why do stupid arguments arise? I mean seriously, if we all are sure it will happen eventually, and not right now, why then is there any deal about it? WHY?
No one wants Katrina to just die so they can move in with each other and have babies, and no one is like Ichabod ditch your wife to be with Abbie. No, No, No, and No!!!! Obviously they have to develop, and please develop doesn’t mean trusting each other (because honestly, if given the chance, Ichabod would literally leave Abbie with his soul knowing full well that he would find it intact, and vice versa, so the trust thing has been checked from day one). I just want to point that out for clarity, but my question remains, if they know we are not asking for a relationship now, why do they go with things like, ‘It will ruin the show’? What exactly does, ‘not right now’ mean?
2.People seem to think that a love life will ruin Abbie…where does that come from? And what does it even mean? Seriously, will she be made helpless, just staring at Ichabod all the time and drawing hearts in her police reports? Does anyone watch Rookie Blue? Are those people not good police officers even with the drama in their private lives? Anyway…I strongly suggest that these people read this fic called Tribulation Chronicles by Carowen (linking it is too much for me), because that fic has Ichabod and Abbie in a relationship, but still really the same…they would be having a quickie and talking about Moloch at the same time (I’m pretty sure that’s not true, but you get the point-at least I hope you do). Everyone wants a love life, it’s a basic human need to be loved, to receive love, why would Abbie be any different? And why would she have dated Luke in the first place if she didn’t need love. I mean think about it, you were probably surprised to find out that your strict English teacher (who was extremely hardcore and never smiled) had a husband and the cutest daughters…so really why should Abbie be less human in the love area of her life (she’s not Voldemort).
3.PLEASE DON’T COMPARE ICHABOD AND ABBIE TO FITZ AND OLIVIA!!!!!!!
That relationship is unhealthy and aggressive and hurtful, and Fitz treats Olivia badly and she just takes it. She would’ve been happier with Jake. But carry on shipping Olitz, just DON’T liken them to Ichabod and Abbie. Please. And randomly, don’t tag something you don’t support.!!!
4.”He’s married!!!” (And so is my neighbour, who isn’t these days?)
Prison Break, Michael was married, the reason not erasing that he made vows even if he didn’t mean them. Who complaint about that when we paired him with Sara?
I think that makes it half a leg for the non-shippers to stand on, but even the halfness of it is wiped out by the fact that she’s dead. Okay, so she could be alive, we don’t know if she ever died, but it’s VERY implied that she’s dead…so until Katrina sits down and tells Ichabod that ‘My love, I never died, I’ve always been held prisoner’, we’ll assume she’s dead. Also, no one is asking that he jumps into bed with Abbie (which even if he does, it will be fornication not adultery). Oh my gosh, I’ve actually read some comments that said Abbie and Ichabod have no chemistry.
The Pilot episode, I watched without volume (I’m not a lip reader) from a computer someone else was using with headphones, while I sat in front of my own computer with headphones as well, but I saw them interacting and I thought, ‘That’s so a pairing’. So yeah, no chemistry at all.
5.So now that the terrible is out of the way, does anyone want to talk about how Season 2 will be difficult for shippers, because I imagine all these new people will be spending time with our leads and they will sort of be separated at times. I just have one request though, NO MORE CRANE BABIES PLEASE, so maybe Abbie should hook Katrina up with contraceptives or stock the cabin with condoms!!!!
Sleepy Hollow in six minutes.
Though better still, Sleepy Hollow: entire first season sixth time over. Because it’s just THAT good.
I will rain legal brimstone down on you so hard it will make God jealous.
Okay, my audition. I liked the script and I thought it was outlandish, but fun. I thought it was intriguing. So, it was like, “Okay, I don’t know about this. We’ll see how this goes.” I had other auditions that I put … of a first priority zone, because I didn’t feel they would cast me in this.
For some reason, I was just like this doesn’t seem like something I would be cast in. I’m short. I’m black. It’s like that’s kind of like not going to happen. It’s just not something that we’ve seen before. So, I was like, “Yeah, sure. Maybe I’ll go and do this. But, first let me do these other ones that seem like more practical.”
Then, it came back around and I just ended up going in for a meeting with the creative team and fell in love with Alex Kurtzman and Len Wiseman, Heather Kadin. These people are really special, you know, so …. And, they were telling me everything about their vision of the show and basically, it was a pilot at the time, what they foresaw and how they saw Abbie.
I was like, “Look, it has to be like this, da, da.” They were like, “We’re with you. We’re with you.” Keep it dry, have fun. They gave me that path to interpret her as I felt. Then, I went in for a cast, a test read. I think it was the very next day I found out I got the job and then had to do a chemistry read with Tom, and that was ….
Yes, because you have no idea who the person would be because I had only read the Washington Irving piece. So, I was sort of expecting, even though I read our pilot, our pilot didn’t necessarily mean it was going to be like some attractive, tall Englishman. I thought he was going to be gangly and nerdy and all this stuff. I was like, “Okay, I’m going to meet this guy.” And, I had a vision of him and then Tom walks in.
I was like, “What the hell is going on? What’s this?” But, it was great. He kept me on my toes and we kind of played a little bit. I think neither one of us really knew what was going to happen for them, but it’s history now. So, it was great.
